The art of navigation

Out and about planning our NNAS Bronze Navigator award course today.  The area we’re using next month is chock full of some really interesting landmarks and history including the Thieves Bridge, the site of the Badger House (an old Inn), the WWII Starfish decoy site (used to draw German bombers away from Sheffield), Ponslow Cross and Mudge’s Station (It would be wrong not to mention Colonel Mudge, a one time director of the Ordnance Survey in the late 18th Century).

Below I‘m at my favourite, the humble Houndkirk Angel far enough off the beaten track to be all but invisible to the majority but easily accessible by those in the know. On top of all the navigating we’ll be doing we’ll also visit a number of these sites and learn a little of their history.
