Spring has definitely sprung in the Peak District, the sun was shining, the Hawthorn in full bloom and lambs were playing in the fields.
Despite this beauty, as I wander up Doctor’s Gate toward Ashton Clough I’m aware that my objective involves tragedy.
I’d planned to recce and risk assess the first part of a new Seven Hills walking route involving a number of Peak District aircraft wrecks scattered around the high moors above Glossop.
A lovely day and a successful recce resulting in a few tweaks to this part of the proposed route. Watch this space for more detail in due course.
A few pics of the day below.

1. C-47A Dakota 42-108982 of the 314th TCG crashed on the 24th July 1945 (Debris found in Ashton Clough)

2. Lancaster Mk.X KB993 No.408 Squadron, RCAF, crashed 18th May 1945 (Debris found on James’s Thorn)

3. Boeing RB-29 Superfortress called “Over Exposed” crashed 3rd November 1948 (Debris found on Higher Shelf Stones)

There were a total of 26 crew and passengers on the three aircraft and all were killed. I’ll cover the stories around these wrecks in more detail on the new routes page in due course.
