…..summit day finally arrived. What an experience to watch the sun rise over the Sahara from the highest peak in North Africa.
Setting off at 5am under a crystal clear star filled sky was definitely one of those “wow“ moments. Crampons on and off we went with a few teams of folk ahead of us, head torches illuminating the way.
Keep an eye on our pages for our next Jbel Toubkal organised trip – it’ll be worth every penny!

Reaching the col at sunrise to be greeted by a cloud inversion with the sun rising over the Sahara was another really special moment. A further 30 or so minutes later and we were on the summit – the highest mountain in North Africa.

The winds were bitingly cold with windchill in the -20’s so we decided not to hang around on the summit and after a few photographs We quickly began our descent.

And then we were down. After a 5 hour round trip we had ascended and then descended Toubkal and back to the refuge for mint tea and a quick break before heading down to the small Berber village of Armoud and our final night at 2000m.
